Using Artisteer to create Joomla templatesTo redo this site, I am using Joomla for content management. I have known Joomla for some time but really wanted to give this site a unique look and feel. To do so, I had to have a template. Templates for Joomla are widely available, both free and commercial, but the free ones often don't really look like I wanted and even the commercial templates I found (at reasonable prices) were not completely to my liking. So I started looking into writing a template from scratch. Boy, that is a lot of work for someone that is not that great at graphically designing a website. I tried, I really did, but everything came out looking cheap and unsatisfactionary. Finally I caved in and looked for a WYSIWYG editor to create a template for this site. I ended up at a tool called Artisteer. A life saver! With this tool I get an interface that looks a lot like MS Office 2007 and by going through the different tabs I was creating different templates in very short amounts of time. Being the control freak that I am, I did not use the suggestions provided and edited all the details through simple menus. The price of the tool to be able to create Joomla templates is not cheap, but for me, as an online publisher, more than worth it! If you are like me, unable to do graphics all that well, and still want your Joomla (or Wordpress!) to look sleek and completely as you want, I suggest you try the free trial. Perhaps you too will be motivated to buy this tool.
